Dr Kate Honner
Dr Kate Honner grew up on the Yorke Peninsula on a Poll Hereford beef cattle and barley-growing farm. She spent 25 years as a Registered Nurse in Emergency and Intensive Care settings in Adelaide and Vancouver, delivering babies as a Registered Midwife in Sydney and held a number of teaching and Executive positions in healthcare across South Australia before embarking on a career change and studying Medicine at the University of Notre Dame, Sydney.
Receiving the Rural Clinical School Medical Community Award for her Graduating Class, it was no surprise that her destiny was to return to country and Kate is relishing the variety and interest of procedural General Practice work and the enviable lifestyle of the Clare Valley.
Her special interests include Paediatrics, Adolescent Health, Women’s Health, Sexual Health, minor procedures, Emergency and Palliative Care. Not one to sit idle, Kate plans to undertake advanced skills training in Anaesthetics to further serve the country communities she’s passionate about.
In her time off, Kate enjoys bush walking, kayaking and running. Her strengths in all lie in endurance over proficiency, but she embraces the challenge always. She has survived waking the Great Ocean Road, paddled with Orca’s in glacier-fed waters and camped with bears and cougars for company. When she’s not adventure bound, Kate can be found cooking for family and friends and loves nothing more than a cold night, an open fire and a good glass of (Clare Valley) wine.
